We teach to learn
We encourage children to:
• Raise questions
• Think critically
• Solve problems
• Arguing for your choices
The goal of education is to raise an independent, proactive, world-building person who is able to act responsibly, creatively, and purposefully in a conscious society.
Learning through playing
Games are very important and necessary for all children, so at KD International School of Vilnius we learn through play. We believe that learning the elements of thinking through play is easier than during a lesson. Through play, we develop a more complex form of thinking – abstract thinking. Children learn to connect symbols (e.g. letters mean the alphabet to them), see their new meanings and thus learn to look at the situation from different angles.
Through play, we learn about cooperation, teamwork, communication, leadership, conflict resolution, engineering, creativity, responsibility, and many other life skills. We learn by playing and we learn by playing. Therefore, at KD International School of Vilnius, we give children more time and opportunities to immerse themselves in real play and experience more diverse learning.
International community
Our community is very diverse – both families and educators come from all corners of the world, different races and religions, so everyone at KD International School of Vilnius is welcome and loved. We are united by common values, aspirations and goals, language, and traditions and internal culture are reflected in the KD International School of Vilnius school uniform, worn by our youngest students all the way to the administration.
Contextual Education
We believe, that child‘s wish and motivation for learning comes from the child himself, who must take responsibility for their educational process, when simultaneously professional educators who are paying attention to child‘s abilities, and purposefully created educational environment and contextual education, encourage child‘s curiosity, understanding of a topic from different perspectives. When the child starts to explore a certain topic in time of all subjects, it automatically becomes more interesting for them, child raises questions, willingly takes upon an activity. For instance, during the space education week children are learning about it through exploration of the world, improves mathematical skills, counting space bodies, comparing sizes and weights, their rotation trajectory, they improve their speech development by reading/looking through books about space, sensory abilities, creativity is educated by arts in the classroom, they pretend to be astronauts and finish some tasks (problem solving) by changing into talking astronaut costumes in the drama centre, etc.
The teacher at KD International School of Vilnius is like a guide, catalyst and navigator, helping the child to constantly improve, therefore our education system is flexible, adapting to the needs, interests, and context of the child and the environment. The child is at the center of the educational process at KD International School of Vilnius. Part of contextual education is individualization and differentiation. A child learns when new information is meaningful to the child, teachers take into account each child's age, abilities, experience, ability to concentrate, family situation, and needs.
